KB18: Create and send log file for support
If you are told to provide a log file to further diagnose your problem, please follow the following steps (only works in version 4.2.8 and higher):
- Don't send a log file unless you're asked to. Before seeing a log file, I'd like to have a screenshot and error code.
- Make sure you are using the latest version of CDBurnerXP to avoid spending time on issues that are fixed already.
- Start CDBurnerXP and choose either “data disc” or “audio disc”, or if this is not possible, edit UserSettings.ini (see next section) and set LoggingEnabled=1.
- Go to the options (File → Options) and make sure that “Enable logging” is checked.
- Restart CDBurnerXP and perform the steps that are necessary to make the error occur (and only these).
- Attach the file “%appdata%\Canneverbe Limited\CDBurnerXP\StarBurn.log” to a post in our forum or send it per e-mail (see http://cdburnerxp.se/impressum).
%appdata% varies depending on your operating system. You can open this special folder by pressing Windows+R on your keyboard or clicking Start→Run, then enter “%appdata%” and click OK. Typically, it will be at C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming.
After sending the log file, you should disable the logging feature, because it might otherwise hurt the performance of CDBurnerXP.
Using SPTD mode
If the support asks you to try the SPTD mode for further diagnosis, do the following:
- Make sure that you have the SPTD drivers installed.
- Open the file “%appdata%\Canneverbe Limited\CDBurnerXP\UserSettings.ini” (you can use File → Open in Windows Notepad).
- Search for “UseSPTD=0” in the file and replace the “0” with “1”.
- Save the file and start CDBurnerXP. Follow the steps required to reproduce the problem and report the result.
- Revert your change in UserSettings.ini.
The SPTD mode ought to provide a more reliable device access than the default SPTI mode, since it prevents conflicts between multiple applications. So it is generally safe to use, but not very much tested from our side, so we cannot guarantee that there are no issues with this mode.
